French based Alcatel or Alcatel-Lucent as they are now known (having merged with Lucent Technologies in 2006), are seen as a major player within the global telecommunications market. At the Mobile World Congress in 2008 Alcatel released their most recent mobile phone designs. These are not designed to compete with the high-end smart phones or even the Apple iPhone, but to provide customers with an easy to use mobile with the standard features that they have come to expect.
