We’ve just recieved news of developments in the States financial markets. No its not another bank thats gone bust, or insurance giant that the American tax payer now owns. It is that City Bank customers will soon be able to conduct two way banking from their mobile phones.

I’m no expert on security, but err I’m not so sure I’d want my mobile device tied to my bank account, however far from pay day it may be.

Ok so a company called ClairMail will be providing the functionality known as the “2-way triple play.” Apprently they have provided this functionality to a number of financial institutions thus far, so its a “core competancy”.

The press release states that the “ClairMail System’s modular design and complete 2-way mobile banking and payments services will enable City Bank customers to access account information and conduct transactions by leveraging any mobile phone’s existing messaging (SMS) software and mobile web capabilities — regardless of the device’s manufacturer, model, operating system or wireless carrier.” Well we wait with trepidation for the first reports of mobile users using this new functionality on their Blackberry 8100.

Let us know if you use it.
