France has made a defiant stand against advertisers that seek to promote the use of mobile phones towards children below the age of 12. According to the telegraph, the French government thinks that there is too much risk in letting children use mobile phones. There is some evidence that children are twice as likely to get brain cancer from using a mobile phone than children who do not use mobile phones.

However, seeing as 90% of the countries under 16 year olds have a phone according to a survey from 2000 it may be too little too late if there is such a link. It looks like the children of France will have sell their new nokia phones and recycle their mobile phones, meanwhile other goverment reports have shown no definable link between brain caner and the use of mobile phones.

But even so, France is going to amke it illegal to sell a mobile phone without also providing a pair of headphones. THis is to limit the amount of radiation that gets close to the users skull. THey are also limiting the amount of radiation that is permitted to come from any mobile device to a level lower.
